Report of Kathina Civara Dana 2020, Bengaluru

Namo Buddhaya, 

Kathina is a traditional Buddhist festival which comes after the end of the rains-retreat (vassāvāsa). During the vassāvāsa, the monks strictly with higher effort spend most of the time studying the Dhamma and in meditation. 

It is stated that the Kaṭhina robe offering is one of the highest offering of skillful deeds. Today, the Kaṭhina robe offering is a large, annual festival where people gather in the monastery, undertake the five or eight precepts, listen to Dhamma talks and celebrate the day by offering monastics requisites, gifts, such as robes, alms and other monastery needs to express gratitude towards the Sangha.

The  Mahabodhi Dayaka Mandali, the lay devotee community of Mahabodhi had organised the Kathina Civara Dana and offering of other monastic requisite beautifully on 8th November 2020 at Mahabodhi Buddha Vihara (Maha Bodhi Society, Bengaluru). 

129 monks were present to receive the dana. More than 400 lay devotees gather to pay salutation to venerable monks and to offer monastic requisites with Kathina Civara. 

A Vihara Dana by Upasaka D Honnapa to Bhikkhu Sangha was one of the highlights of the program. Also, a 4 acres land was also offered to Sangha to build Mahabodhi Prakurti Buddha vihar by Upasaka Chaluvaraju, his family and Upasaka Kumar and family. 

The program began at 9:30 am by offering salutation to the triple gems. The lay devotees undertook the refuge in the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha with Five Precepts. It was followed by Dhamma teaching by the head abbot of Mahabodhi, Ven Kassapa Mahathera. After the teaching the Kathina Civara was offered to the sangha by gathered lay devotees with great faith. Various publications of dhamma books were also released. 

The 1st session of the program concluded with salutation to the Sangha and by sharing merits to all beings for peace and happiness. 

After lunch the 2nd session of Kannada Dhamma talk was conducted by Most Ven Ananda Bhanteji. Encouraging local devotees to walk the path of dhamma. 

Despite the Corona situation, there was no disturbance to the program, it was observed peacefully and meaningfully.
