We pay out gratitude to Most Ven Acharya Buddharakkhia bhanteji for starting MBS Bengaluru on the 5th June 1956 by planting the holy Bodhi Tree.

NAMO BUDDHAYA

Dear Friends,

On June 5, 1956 a dynamic young Buddhist monk with great vision arrived in Bengaluru with a sapling of holy Bodhi Tree from Buddhagaya and planted it. With the plantation, this compassionate and visionary monk, Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, started Maha Bodhi Society Bengaluru.

Today we feel immensely grateful to him for all that he has done for the Buddha Sasana and all of us – established several monasteries, many stupas, Buddha viharas, trained hundreds of monks, gave deeksha to countless upasakas and upasikas, printed lakhs of Buddhist books and magazines, published sacred Tipitaka, offered Dhamma teachings in many modes, conducted courses for lay people and children, started many schools, hospitals, old age homes, etc. etc. The list is endless. All this, only to revive the Buddha Sasana in India, so that peace, happiness and progress will come to Buddha land – India.

This year it is full moon day on June 5, an Uposatha day. It is World Environment Day too. On this auspicious day let us determine to protect inner and outer environment and make this world bit happier and safer.
